Shaya Bem

My research focuses on understanding the soil microbiome's role in Apple Replant Disease (ARD) using metagenomic approaches. I employ both amplicon sequencing (16S rRNA) and shotgun metagenomics to characterize differences in bacterial community composition and functional potential between ARD-affected "sick" soils and recovered soils. This research contributes to developing sustainable interventions for managing soil-borne plant diseases in agricultural systems.
